Wembanyama, 18, "is still not recovered from an injury contracted during the season", indicated the FFBB.

"After having sent his last medical examinations to the medical staff of the French team, and after an exchange between the player's doctor and the doctor of the national team, it was agreed that it was not possible to 'integrate Victor Wembanyama in the preparation of the Blues for the EuroBasket,' the statement continued.

Wembanyama, who has just signed for two seasons with Boulogne-Levallois after a season spent at Asvel, injured his psoas during the semi-finals of the French Championship.

He ended his club season on June 3.

The FFBB clarified that coach Vincent Collet did not intend to replace him in the group of 17 players summoned to prepare for the tournament.

The preparation of the Blues, Olympic vice-champions last summer in Tokyo, began this Friday.

Six meetings, including four friendly and two qualifying for the 2023 World Cup, are on their program.

France, 12th in the last Euro in 2017, will face Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Bosnia and Slovenia in the group stage of the Euro.
