The more than 430 migrants rescued by the "Sea-Watch 3" in the Mediterranean are allowed to go ashore in Italy.

The Italian authorities have assigned the civil rescue ship to the port of Taranto, as the operator organization Sea-Watch announced on Thursday evening.

The “Sea-Watch 3” rescued the migrants during several missions in the Mediterranean last weekend and then waited for a European port to be assigned.

Several of the survivors required medical treatment.

The sea rescuers expect to arrive in Taranto on Saturday.

In addition to the "Sea-Watch 3", the "Geo Barents" from "Doctors Without Borders" and the "Ocean Viking" operated by the international association "SOS Méditerranée" are currently on the move in the Mediterranean.

Both ships have also rescued hundreds of people in the past few days and are now waiting for port.

The Mediterranean Sea is one of the most important and at the same time one of the most dangerous escape routes to Europe.

Again and again people in search of protection dare the risky crossing.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), at least 1,037 migrants have died or are missing while crossing the Mediterranean since the beginning of the year.
