In June, the Government decided that e-scooters should no longer be able to park on footpaths and cycle paths, other than at bicycle racks or other parking places.

Today the government came up with the decision on a driving ban on footpaths for e-scooters.

- Last spring, when the issue was on referral, we were clear that this change was necessary.

This is something we have been looking forward to and clarifies a lot.

Before, you could question our decision to move electric scooters, but now it's just a matter of removing them, says Per-Olof Löfberg, head of traffic planning in Växjö municipality.

Greater opportunities

As of September 1, the new regulation comes into force, which makes it prohibited to both park and drive on footpaths and sidewalks.

This gives municipalities and the Police Authority greater opportunity to move incorrectly parked e-scooters.

Pilot project in Växjö

The bans now raise the question of parking spaces for electric scooters.

The company Ryde with around 300-400 electric scooters in Växjö now wants to test its own parking spaces in collaboration with the municipality.

- We have thanked their pilot project which is supposed to start in the autumn.

The company has known this was coming and is now trying to find new solutions, says Per-Olof Löfberg.
