Two new skyscrapers in Frankfurt have been nominated for the International High-Rise Award 2022/2023: The "One" by Meurer Architekten in the Europaviertel and the "Senckenberg Quartier" by Cyrus Moser Architekten next to the museum of the same name.

A total of 34 skyscrapers on four continents are in the selection, as the institutions involved announced on Thursday in Frankfurt.

Among them is the Great Mosque of Algiers Tower in Algiers, designed by the Frankfurt architects KSP Engel.

The Deutsches Architekturmuseum has selected the nominated buildings from more than 1000 new skyscrapers worldwide, only four of which are in Europe.

The five finalists will be announced in the fall.

The winner will be chosen on November 8, 2022 in Frankfurt's Paulskirche.

The prize is endowed with 50,000 euros.

"Similar to two years ago, a significant decline in completions could be observed worldwide," reported the jurors: "In many countries there were delays due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the associated supply chain problems and labor shortages." Most of the new high-rise buildings were built in China.

The international high-rise award is given every two years for an exemplary high-rise building.

Sustainability, exterior design and interior room qualities as well as urban planning aspects are evaluated.

Other criteria are innovative construction technology and cost-effectiveness.

Buildings must be at least 100 meters tall and completed within the past two years.

The prize is awarded jointly by the city of Frankfurt am Main, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum and DekaBank.
