It is the tourism industry, all the jobs in hotels and restaurants that cause youth unemployment to shrink, says job broker Olof Petersson.

- Employers have even had difficulty filling jobs during the summer months, although I think most have solved it.

Already in May, Gotland was doing very well and during the month of June unemployment among 18-24 year olds has fallen further and is now at 5.0 percent.

This is three percentage points lower than the same month last year.

The national average is currently 8.1 percent.

In Östergötland it is 9.1 percent and Sörmland has among the highest in the country, 12.3 percent, which is much higher than the metropolitan regions.

Although Gotland currently has the country's lowest youth unemployment, it will increase when the tourist season begins to ebb, says Olof Petersson.

- But generally speaking, I think we still have a good labor market ahead of us.

During the pandemic, many young people also opened their eyes to education.

- And our matching work is currently very much based on matching against education.

An incomplete upper secondary education is a real watershed.
