A new episode of

extreme heat

will coincide with August

6, the hottest day of the year

according to the weather portal eltiempo.es, which predicts that temperatures will rise during the first week of August to

exceed 38ºC

in many areas of the country.

From this last Saturday of July, temperatures will be high, especially in the southwest, with

thermometers touching 40ºC

, a rise that will continue on Sunday and will extend to more areas, since 40ºC will be exceeded in Andalusia and Extremadura, up to 42ºC promptly.

Spain heat wave map

In the rest of the country, 35ºC will be exceeded in the entire southern half of the peninsula, the Ebro valley and almost all of Castilla y León.

The softest values are expected in the Cantabrian coast and the Mediterranean coasts.

On

Monday

the thermal rise will continue and in the valleys of the Tagus, Guadiana and Guadalquivir it could exceed 42ºC on time.

In Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid and the entire Ebro valley temperatures will reach 36ºC in general.

Looking ahead to

Tuesday and Wednesday

, the thermometers will continue to rise and will exceed 40ºC throughout Extremadura, much of Andalusia and the Tagus and Guadiana valleys in Castilla-La Mancha.

In addition, in the surroundings of

Seville and Córdoba

the thermometers

could climb up to 44ºC

in a timely manner.

From then on, the thermometers could remain at similar values until at least Saturday, August 6, when they could drop somewhat in the west of the peninsula.

eltiempo.es has analyzed

data from more than 150 stations

in the period 1991-2020.

According to these data, the hottest day of the year is August 6, with the highest average temperature at the national level, with 24.3ºC.

Likewise, the average temperature of the maximums is also the highest, with 30.7ºC.

In any case, in each province and season the day and the average temperature vary.

In Seville, the maximum value is 29.8ºC on August 6, but in Vigo the highest average temperature corresponds to July 14, with 21ºC.

Thus, in coastal areas, August is usually warmer, with the exception of the Galician, Asturian and Cantabrian coasts, where the warmest day is usually in mid-July.

eltiempo.es adds that on August 10, 2012 there was an average temperature that almost reached 37.9 degrees.

As for the nights, that of August 7 is considered the hottest: in that early morning, the statistical average of the minimum temperatures in Spain is around 18ºC.

TROPICAL NIGHTS

Precisely, the thermal rise of the next few days will bring, apart from the rise in the maximums, an

almost generalized rise in the minimums,

so that on Sunday the tropical nights will be generalized in the southern half and the entire Mediterranean coast.

However, the marked rise throughout the country will occur from Tuesday, August 2, when tropical nights could occur in almost all areas of the country and in cities such as Santander, Valladolid or Badajoz they could

not go below 20ºC

.

In addition, in some areas the equatorial nights

could return

, that is, those in which the thermometers

do not drop below 25ºC

throughout the night, as would be the case in Madrid, Jaén or Barcelona, where they could stay closer to 26ºC than of 25ºC.
