Russia announced that it will hold military exercises in the eastern region late next month, while the German Defense Ministry confirmed the arrival of several multiple rocket launchers and 3 self-propelled howitzers in Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that it will conduct the "Vostok 2022" strategic maneuvers with the forces of the Eastern Military District from August 30 to September 5.

She added that airborne forces, long-range aviation and military transport aviation, as well as military units from other countries, will participate in these maneuvers, noting that training will be conducted to ensure military security in the eastern region.

"We draw your attention to the fact that only a part of the armed forces of the Russian Federation is participating in the special military operation (in Ukraine), and the number of soldiers is quite sufficient to fulfill all the tasks set by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces," the statement said.

Bombing and killing

On the field level, news websites affiliated with the separatists in Donetsk published pictures showing Russian militants belonging to the Wagner Group in front of the largest coal-fired power plant in Ukraine near Svetlodarsk.

Moscow said its forces killed dozens of foreign fighters, most of them Poles, in an attack on a unit of the Ukrainian International Corps near the city of Kostyantinivka in Donetsk region.

The Russian Air Force also bombed Ukrainian military sites near the village of Zaitsev in Donetsk, and Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that the strikes inflicted heavy losses on a Ukrainian artillery division near the city of Mykolaiv in the south.

Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that various areas in the countryside of Odessa on the Black Sea were subjected to Russian bombardment, which resulted in the destruction of a number of residential buildings. The bombing was accompanied by the Ukrainian army declaring a state of military alert along the coast of Odessa.

For its part, the Ukrainian General Staff said that fighting is continuing around Semiheria in Donetsk, stressing that Ukrainian soldiers were able to repel attacks east of the line linking Seversk through Solidar to Bakhmut, in addition to successful defense operations along other parts of the front in Donetsk and neighboring Kharkiv.

The German Ministry of Defense announced the arrival of several multiple rocket launchers and 3 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, hours after the arrival of the first batch of German Gibbard anti-aircraft tanks.

anti-Corruption

In another context, the United States on Tuesday called on Ukraine to choose a credible person for the post of Prosecutor to replace Irina Venediktova, who was fired by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"The independence and impartiality of the attorney general is vital to ensuring the integrity of accountability efforts in Ukraine," State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters, adding that fighting corruption is essential as the country prepares for European Union membership.

"Corruption must be fought even as Ukraine defends itself against Russian aggression. Russia's war against Ukraine is an external threat, and corruption is an internal threat," he added.

Zelensky had indicated the need to act against officials suspected of treason and support for Russia.
