The grade point average for the Abitur was particularly good this year in Hesse.

As reported by the Ministry of Education in Wiesbaden, the average grade is 2.23 and thus slightly better than in the previous year (2.25).

Before the corona pandemic, the grade point average was significantly worse: in 2020 it was 2.33 and in 2019 it was 2.37.

The trend towards continuously improving Abitur grades, which has been ongoing since 2017, is thus continuing.

At that time, the examinees achieved an average of 2.41.

Of the 19,471 students who took part in the Abitur this year, 96.5 percent passed.

841 of them achieved the top mark of 1.0.

The proportion of students with the best rating has more than doubled compared to 2017.

Minister of Education Alexander Lorz (CDU) does not attribute the particularly good grades this year to lower requirements: "Despite Corona, we have not made any compromises in Hesse in terms of standards and level." This year's Abitur class went through almost the entire upper school under pandemic conditions.

Having to write a final exam in such a situation is a particular challenge.

However, as in the previous year, special corona rules applied to the Abitur.

This allowed teachers to choose from more tasks than usual.

The students also had a little more time to work on the tasks.
