The Argentinian international (24 years old, 7 caps), who signed up until 2027 with an option for an additional year, according to ManU, had been in Amsterdam since 2019 where he wore the Ajax jersey 120 times (6 goals).

"It's an honor to join this huge club, said the central defender to the Manchester United website. I worked so hard for such a moment to come".

Ajax Amsterdam specified that the club would receive 57.37 million euros for this transfer, possible bonuses which could increase this amount up to 67 million euros.

A record amount for an outgoing transfer to the Netherlands.

With Ajax, Martinez won two Dutch league titles (in 2021 and 2022) and two national cups (2019 and 2021).

Martinez started his career in Argentina at Newell's Old Boys and Defensa y Justicia.

With the Albicelste, he won the Copa America in 2021.

In Manchester, Martinez will find the one who had been his coach in recent seasons, the Dutchman Erik ten Hag.

The Mancunian club thus records a new transfer after those of Tyrell Malacia (Feyenoord) and Christian Eriksen (Tottenham).

"Lisandro is an exceptional player who will bring more quality and experience to the team," said ManU manager John Murtough.

For Ajax, the departure of Martinez is a new loss of importance this summer after those of Sébastien Haller (left for Dortmund for 31 million euros), Ryan Gravenberch (at Bayern Munich for 18 million euros) or Nicolas Tagliafico (at Olympique Lyonnais for 4.1 million euros).
