The Supreme Court in Islamabad issued its decision in the case raised a few days ago regarding the vote for the presidency of the Punjab provincial government, which ended with the victory of Hamzah Shahbaz Sharif, candidate of the Muslim League-Nawaz Sharif party, as prime minister.

The Supreme Court ruled illegal the decision of Dost Mazari, deputy speaker of the provincial parliament, who ordered the cancellation of 10 votes from the Pakistan Muslim League-Qaid Azam party, which is allied with former Prime Minister Imran Khan's PTI.

With the decision of the court, Pervez Elahi Chaudhry becomes the Prime Minister of Punjab instead of Hamza Shahbaz Sharif.

This decision comes in the interest of the PTI party alliance and the League-Qaid-e-Azam Wing, which won the region's by-elections a few days ago.

The coalition government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had appealed to the Supreme Court to form a committee with a larger number of judges to look into the case, but the Supreme Court refused.

Imran Khan is calling for new national elections after his party's landslide victory in the by-election in Punjab province. "Any other path will only lead to more political uncertainty and economic chaos," he said on Twitter.
