Since 5 a.m. this Monday morning, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques firefighters have been working on the fire in a small building in the center of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

According to France Bleu Pays basque, when the rescuers evacuated the few apartments in the building located rue Chauvin-Dragon, they found themselves facing a man equipped with a rifle.

The police were then called, as well as the Raid to try to intervene with the madman.

In the middle of the morning, after a resumption of flames, part of the building collapsed.

It is not known whether the man entrenched in his home died or not or whether he fled in the meantime.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this fire would be of criminal origin.
