Two cyclists have died this Sunday after being run over in Níjar (Almería) by a tourism whose driver has been arrested after testing positive for alcohol, according to Emergencies 112 Andalusia and the General Directorate of Traffic.

The 24-year-old driver, who

has invaded the opposite lane at excessive speed on a curve,

according to the DGT, has tested positive in the blood alcohol test with a rate of 1.07 mg/l and has been arrested accused of two crimes of reckless homicide and another against road safety.

The event took place around 09:40 a.m., when the single emergency telephone number received several notices alerting that a car had overturned after running over several cyclists, at kilometer 7 of the AL-4200 road, a road that is not included in the catalog of protected cycle paths.

It was a head-on collision and three cyclists were run over, the two deceased and one injured.

Members of the 061 Health Emergency Center, the Civil Traffic Guard and the Fire Department have been mobilized to the scene, since people were trapped in the incident.

Sources from the Armed Institute have confirmed to 112 the death of the two cyclists, of which no further data has emerged.

The coordinating room has also activated the road maintenance services to clean the road
