Appointed president of the conference of heads of state of ECOWAS since the last Accra summit, Umaru Sissoco Emballo was accompanied by the former Nigerien president Mahamadou Issoufou, facilitator, and the president of the ECOWAS Commission.

The President of the Conference of Heads of State of ECOWAS has confirmed the 24-month period granted to the Burkinabè soldiers to hand over power to civilians.

We had very good discussions with the Burkinabè authorities.

We have consensus on the 24-month deadline and we have underlined the importance of the deadline

,” said Umaro Sissoco Embalo after his meeting with the President of Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Henri Damiba.

For the delegation of the Economic Community of West African States, the security challenge, the humanitarian issue, the return to constitutional order, the mobilization of resources and the establishment of the monitoring and evaluation mechanism are the the most important axes and on which the government of the transition must focus.

President Umaro Sissoco Embalo called for mobilization alongside Burkina Faso, because the security issue is not only a Burkina Faso issue, but " 

a sub-regional issue

".

He also welcomed the progress made in Burkina Faso in terms of security, because "

attacks have decreased a little

", he said.
