The Uzbek capital, Tashkent, will host on Monday an international conference on Afghanistan, with the participation of the Taliban-led government and more than 20 countries and international organizations.

The conference is the first of its kind on Afghanistan after the return of the Taliban to rule the country about a year ago.

Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki has arrived in Tashkent - which has diplomatic relations with the Taliban-led government - to participate in the two-day conference focused on enhancing stability and security in Afghanistan.

The Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement last month that the conference comes as a continuation of two international conferences held in Uzbekistan in 2018 and 2021 on the Afghan peace process, security cooperation and regional communication.

With the chaotic withdrawal of US and foreign forces last August, the previous Afghan government collapsed, the Taliban took control of the country, and formed a new government.
