“What measures will the Vice President (High Representative) take to ensure that the government and people of Georgia do not lose faith in the European Union and find it necessary to fall into the orbit of Russia?”

Berg asked.

According to the MEP, the decision of the EU to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country for association is symbolic.

In this regard, he asked Borrell whether it was possible "to show the same courtesy in the case of Georgia."

In his letter, Berg recalled that the Georgian authorities officially applied for membership in the European bloc on March 3.

The summit of EU leaders on June 23 agreed on the status of candidates for EU accession for Ukraine and Moldova.

The European Council also recognized the European perspective of Georgia, but put forward a number of conditions for obtaining the status of a candidate.

On July 3, a rally was held in Tbilisi demanding that the government resign.

The protesters declared the need to form a cabinet of ministers that would carry out reforms and achieve the status of a candidate member of the European Union for the country.
