A 53-year-old man died and two people were transported in relative emergency, after an apartment fire on Saturday evening in Canteleu near Rouen, we learned on Sunday from the Seine-Maritime firefighters.

The firefighters had received a call around 7 p.m., reporting an apartment fire on the 10th floor of a building.

Arrived on the scene, about twenty firefighters, noted a "proven fire and smoky upper floors".

Six injured

Extract from the accommodation, a 53-year-old man was declared dead by a doctor from Smur, said the departmental fire and rescue service of Seine-Maritime (Sdis76), confirming information from local media.

Two victims were also transported in relative emergency to the Rouen University Hospital, and three other victims classified unscathed and left at the scene, according to the SDIS.

Around 10 p.m., a provisional toll reported six victims in total.

Around 1 a.m., the firefighters also counted nine apartments damaged by the fire requiring the relocation of around ten people by the lessor or the family.
