Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban allowed the end of Western dominance because of the conflict in Ukraine.

He expressed this opinion, speaking on July 23 with a speech in the Romanian city of Baile Tusnad.

“It may well be that this war will defiantly put an end to Western domination, which in some cases could create, unite the whole world against someone in various ways ... and a multipolar world order will knock on the door,” RIA Novosti quotes Orban.

According to the Hungarian prime minister, the West's strategy, based on the desire to weaken Russia, help Ukraine win in the military confrontation with the Russian Federation through the supply of NATO weapons, and also to receive the support of the whole world, has failed.

And now the governments of European countries are collapsing like dominoes, and energy prices are rising.

The West needs a new strategy, says Orban.

“We are sitting in a car with all four wheels pierced: it is obvious that the war cannot be won this way,” Reuters quoted the Hungarian prime minister as saying.

“A new strategy is needed, which should focus on negotiating peace and preparing an acceptable peace agreement, and not on winning on the battlefield.”

As Orban noted, Ukraine will never be able to prevail in the confrontation with Russia "simply because the Russian army has an asymmetric advantage."

"Since Russia wants security guarantees, only peace talks between Russia and America can end this war," the Hungarian prime minister said.

According to the deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, Vladimir Shapovalov, Orban gives a very sober assessment of the situation in Europe and the relationship between Russia and the West.

According to the expert, many other Western leaders either do not understand the essence of what is happening, "or deliberately deceive their population."

“The Hungarian Prime Minister objectively analyzes what is happening according to the situation that has developed in the EU as a result of the anti-Russian policy pursued by Brussels.

Almost all other EU leaders, unlike Orban, because of their partisanship, do not want to admit that the well-being of Europe depends on mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia.

Almost all EU countries caved in under the dictates of Brussels, but Hungary continues to defend its national interests, ”the analyst said in an interview with RT.

Brussels Diktat

As Shapovalov recalled, Hungary is the only EU country that did not fully support the EU sanctions course against Russia, which is why Brussels began to put pressure on Budapest.

“Unlike all other EU countries, Hungary takes a rational position.

And this causes an extremely negative reaction from Brussels, which seeks to impose its policy on Budapest and applies pressure on an independent state.

In particular, the EU leadership is rudely blackmailing the Hungarian authorities by refusing to finance the country under the pretext of corruption and other internal problems, ”the expert said.

According to Reuters, the European Commission (EC) has given Budapest the last month "to address the causes of the EC's concerns about respect for the rule of law" - the commission believes that due to corrupt tendering, EU money in Hungary is at risk.

If Hungary does not fulfill the conditions set, Brussels will ask the governments of the EU countries to freeze part of the funds that Budapest was supposed to receive under the EU budget for the period 2021-2027, the agency writes.

According to Vladimir Shapovalov, the EU demands are gross blackmail and interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.

“And the point is not at all in observing the principle of the rule of law – in this way Brussels seeks to impose its vision of the situation with respect to Russia and force the Hungarian leadership to accept the anti-Russian policy that Brussels broadcasts.

All this indicates that there is no question of any democracy and equality in the EU, ”the analyst believes.

Shapovalov also recalled that Hungary opposed the initiative of the chairman of the European People's Party in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, on the so-called fair distribution of gas among EU members, who at the same time used the term "forced solidarity" in his speech.

“Hungarian gas storage facilities will remain the property of Hungary.

Gas purchased with Hungarian taxpayers' money and stored in Hungarian gas storage facilities will be used in Hungary.

Weber's proposal somehow reminds us of communism, ”Peter Szijjarto, head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, reacted to Weber's proposal.

After that, on July 21, the head of the Hungarian foreign policy department arrived on an unannounced visit to Moscow, where he met with his counterpart Sergei Lavrov and Russian Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Novak and Denis Manturov with the aim of "ensuring a secure energy supply for Hungary in the coming months."

Following the meetings, Szijjarto explained that Hungary wants to buy an additional 700 million cubic meters from Russia.

m of gas, because, according to him, Budapest will be able to purchase such a volume only from the Russian Federation.

“You can dream, you can blow various balloons, but the physical reality remains a physical reality,” he said, motivating the intentions of Budapest.

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a joint press conference with Peter Szijjarto, said that Moscow would immediately consider Hungary's appeal to increase gas supplies.

At the same time, the Russian minister noted that the further development of practical cooperation between Russia and Hungary "is hindered by the frankly Russophobic policy pursued by Washington and the European Union's Brussels."

“It involves an unbridled escalation of sanctions without a sound analysis of the consequences for the countries themselves that impose these restrictions.

Of course, we are not interested in things like this hindering our cooperation.

We will look for and find solutions that will make our interaction in all areas independent of this kind of whims and attempts at "punishment," Lavrov stressed.

Demonstration of insolvency

Since the position of Hungary - both in the field of energy and in the field of international politics - is extremely inconvenient for the leadership of the European Union, pressure from Brussels on Budapest will only increase, Vladimir Shapovalov believes.

“Hungary is destroying the myth of the unity of the West in the fight against Russia, and this indicates that not all EU countries support the line of Brussels and Washington, not to mention the rest of the world,” the expert said.

“Therefore, the pressure on Hungary will continue and intensify, since it is the last stronghold of at least some adequacy in the EU, a state that seeks to protect its national interests, and not Euro-Atlantic solidarity.”

The EU strategy that Orban is talking about is indeed bringing extremely negative results for Europe in the form of a worsening economic and energy crisis, Shapovalov said.

“These negative trends will intensify by autumn.

But the West will not change its approach, because there is no one to do it: those politicians who are in power there assess the situation absolutely inadequately and are hostages of the policies of Brussels and Washington, making decisions not in the interests of their own countries.

In this sense, the Western European elites demonstrate absolute failure and incapacity,” the analyst noted.

Nikolai Mezhevich, chief researcher at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, also believes that Brussels will not heed the calls of the Hungarian prime minister.

“This, unfortunately, will not happen, since the EU leadership is under the illusion that it will be able to put pressure on Moscow through a new portion of sanctions and another package of military assistance intended for Kyiv.

But all this primarily hits the economy of Europe itself and exacerbates the internal problems of the EU, ”the expert said in a conversation with RT.

Mezhevich also believes that Orban's position will be met with colossal criticism and misunderstanding in the West.

“It is clear that the Hungarian prime minister will be attacked.

He leads his European country on a difficult road and calls a spade a spade, admits that the situation will develop towards multipolarity.

Such an honest approach deserves respect,” the expert stressed.

“Orban’s position is a clear confirmation that the understanding of the world that Russia is trying to convey to the West is becoming obvious to politicians in Europe, although not all of them admit it,” Mezhevich stated.

However, soon the citizens of the EU countries will start asking uncomfortable questions to Brussels, and he will have to soften his anti-Russian position, the analyst believes.

“European officials are very afraid that sooner or later the crisis in Europe will turn into a search for the guilty.

EU residents will ask their politicians why, instead of solving energy problems, Brussels is fighting Orban, who is trying to provide his country with gas and other resources.

Therefore, it is possible that in the near future we will hear more than one resignation of the European government in the EU, ”concluded the analyst.
