It was during the Wednesday evening that Kent Bökelund heard a strange sound from the sky when he was sitting at the summer cottage in Söderåkra.

- First I heard the sound and then I saw a strange bird flying by.

It squealed as it flew forward and then it settled in our birch tree.

It moved between the treetops and chased away a crow, says Kent Bökelund.

The same species was seen on Öland in 2020

The domesticated parrot, the collared parakeet, has been seen on several occasions on Öland and in Blekinge County.

Already in 2020, SVT Nyheter Småland reported that a collared parakeet had been seen on Öland, including in Kastlösa.

Anders Collin, chairman of Öland's ornithological association, believes that it is the same bird that was seen on Öland in 2020 that has now been seen in Söderåkra.

- There is a very high probability that it is the same bird that was here on Öland, says Anders Collin.

Populations have been established in England and Germany

The collared parakeet parrot is not found in the wild in Sweden.

However, it has gained a strong foothold in other parts of Europe.

When the families of the domestic birds do not want them, they are released and the birds then form their own populations.

- I know that populations have formed in England, the Netherlands, Belgium and parts of Germany.

But there is nothing like this in Sweden, says Anders Collin.
