According to the expert, dreams, in particular nightmares, are the processing of accumulated information.

He explained that there are processes such as the formation of long-term memory, adaptation to the environment, the search for solutions on how to proceed.

“Therefore, playing the situation in nightmares, the brain is looking for a solution for itself, how it would act in it: run away, catch up, fight,” the doctor explained.

In his opinion, if a person periodically has nightmares of different plots, they can be perceived as "a kind of adaptive element."

However, if the stress load is extreme, the nightmares can become frequent and already "exhaust the nervous system, be obsessive."

“This is the worst type of nightmare, it is often described in films: a person gets into a car accident, and then every night he dreams about how he gets into this car accident.

The brain turns to this situation, cannot adapt to it, cannot decide how to proceed, wakes up in horror, having not found any solution.

This is already a problem that causes anxiety, depression, and these are grounds for contacting a specialist, ”concluded Buzunov.
