The spacesuit of former astronaut Buzz Aldrin (real name: Edwin Eugene Aldrin II, 92), who became the second person to step on the moon in 1969 on the Apollo 11 mission, is auctioned off.

Reuters reported on the 21st local time that the 1969 Buzz Aldrin spacesuit was auctioned off through Sotheby's in New York, USA.

Buzz Aldrin was obscured by Neil Armstrong, who first set foot on the surface of the moon, but was re-emerged as he became known as the real-life model for Buzz in the movie 'Toy Story'.

The items he put up for this auction include space ballpoint pens, space journals, jackets, and medals used during the lunar exploration.

The highlight of this auction is expected to be the spacesuit jacket Aldrin wore during his lunar mission.

Sotheby's estimates that the winning bid for the spacesuit jacket is up to $2 million (about 2.6 billion won).

"This item is incredibly rare," said Sotheby's head Cassandra Hatton.

The auction is scheduled to take place on the 26th, ahead of the 53rd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Buzz Aldrin said, "After much deliberation, we have decided that it is right to share this item that symbolizes a historical moment.
