The Public Works Committee of the United States House of Representatives, responsible for shedding light on the attack on the capitol of January 6, 2021, yesterday held a last public hearing before a summer break, in full prime time .

The elected officials drew up minute by minute the day of January 6 as Donald Trump lived it from inside the White House.

The chairman of the commission, Benni Thompson, concluded that Donald Trump should "

be held legally responsible for the attack

 ".

It's "

a startling end to the first season of what has been the most compelling television series of the year ," the

Washington Post

 caricatures

.

The first sentence of this op-ed could serve as a synopsis for this fictional series: “

As outrageous, irresponsible, or treacherous as you thought President Donald Trump's behavior might have been on January 6, 2021, it was actually worse.

Much worse

 ”.

A tweet from the president was particularly shocking.

Donald Trump encourages his supporters to continue the attack, while he was aware of the events.

He did not defend the civil servants and the police on the spot, he even put "

a target on the back of his own vice-president

 ", continues the daily.

The commission's work will not resume until September.

While awaiting final judgment, the

Washington Post

hopes the attorney general will show that the United States "

is a country where no one, not even a former president, is above the law

 ."

In Brazil, a police operation leaves at least 18 dead in a favela in Rio

It is the fourth deadliest operation in the history of Rio de Janeiro.

Sixteen members "

suspected

" of belonging to criminal gangs were killed, a policeman and a local resident also lost their lives.

President Jair Bolsonaro mourned the death of the officer, but did not say a single word about the death of the 50-year-old woman.

On the

Globo

website , you can read the testimony of this resident's boyfriend.

He accuses the police of having killed her: “

I was taking her to her house... Arriving at the red light, I stopped.

Despite this, when they saw the windows open, they shot at the car

 ,” he explains.

“

I saw her fall next to me, she had a hole in her chest.

Earlier in the day,

the Brazilian newspaper

revealed that among the first 11 suspects killed and already identified, three had no criminal record.

In Mexico, we demand justice for Luz Raquel Padilla, who was burned alive

Many associations demonstrated today for an investigation to be carried out.

The case of Luz Raquel Padilla, 35, feminist activist and mother of an autistic child, is on the front page of

El Universal

.

This is also the photo of the day on the cover of the Mexican daily.

Some women wear t-shirts with the photo of Luz Raquel Padilla, others purple t-shirts, the color of feminism in Mexico.

They all take part in a release of doves above the coffin of this brutally murdered mother in a park in the suburbs of Guadalajara.

According to witnesses, she was doused with alcohol by three men and a woman before they set her on fire.

In the pages of

Milenio

, the representative of a feminist association condemns “

the cowardly feminicide of Luz Raquel

 ”.

She demands justice: “

It is because of the inaction of the authorities that Luz Raquel is a victim of femicide.

That's why we raise our voices collectively, remembering that if men touch one of us, we all respond

 .”

Haiti has not made progress on human trafficking…

The Haitian newspaper

Le National

reacts to the latest report from the US State Department on human trafficking.

He quotes the report: “

The government of Haiti does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, but is making considerable efforts to achieve it

 ”.

There has been no change since the last reference period, even taking into account the Covid-19 pandemic, the newspaper relays.

“

Impunity and complicity remained serious problems, especially in high-profile cases

 ,” he notes.

And even though the government has put in place procedures to combat trafficking, judges regularly receive bribes to free traffickers.

Sometimes, no sanction is taken.

Le National

highlights the case of the former president of the Haitian Football Federation, accused of rape and embezzlement of minors: “

The authorities have taken no action

 ”.

Peruvian casinos, money laundering machine

In Peru, an investigation published by a collective of journalists explores the workings of chance machines.

In the country, there are more than 500 casinos and gambling halls. In the streets of Lima, they are on every street corner.

The investigation returns in particular to the risk of money laundering in these structures.

Journalists link casinos to

offshore

companies in Panama.

The money that is exchanged with tokens is transferred directly to Panama in order to "

avoid paying taxes in Peru

", according to a quoted tax expert.

Algunos dueños de casinos y tragamonedas en Perú se han visto involucrados en operaciones sospechosas.

They were interested in the casinos of the Andes, in particular on the border with Bolivia.

There, the gambling halls do not require identification to exchange money for chips.

A boon for actors involved in illegal mining and logging, smuggling, illicit cultivation of coca leaves or drug trafficking, which are widespread in the region.

Enough to launder your money without arousing suspicion.

The survey underlines that it is the money resulting from the corruption of the public administration which circulates the most in these casinos.

Eight million euros have been embezzled in 20 years.
