But what is happening with the mayor of Le Gosier, Cédric Cornet?

A search warrant has been issued against the Guadeloupe elected official who did not show up for a summons in a case of alleged embezzlement.

Cédric Cornet, also president of Carl (agglomeration community of the Levant Riviera), was summoned on Tuesday to be questioned as part of a preliminary investigation opened in particular for "concealment of abuse of corporate assets, embezzlement of public funds and active and passive corruption”, specifies the parquet floor.

"The stated desire of Mr. Cédric Cornet not to honor a long-standing judicial summons justified that a search warrant be issued against him", announced Wednesday in a press release the public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Ville. -Pitre, Patrick Desjardins.

A departure for France?

According to the local media Radio Caraïbes Internationale, Cédric Cornet would have taken a plane "at the end of last week" for France.

The mayor said Wednesday evening in the local media to be on a private trip "outside Guadeloupe", without specifying where he was.

"I have never fled in my life, I have never received a summons in person, either by registered mail or in my mailbox", he assured RCI radio, specifying that he was carrying out right now "the most important trip of [his] life".

Denouncing “a relentlessness on [sa] person”, he asked “a date and a time” to present himself “on [his] return” to the investigators.

The Carl spoke earlier on Tuesday in a press release, referring to the visit of police officers to its premises on Monday, denouncing “a certain brutality by the police” or even “a pure and simple theft” after the seizure of an “empty trunk […] ] without any minutes”.

Words against words

In its press release, the Pointe-à-Pitre prosecutor's office denounced "a largely erroneous version of the situation" and "certain terms [...] likely to constitute a criminal offense".

“No incident was brought to the attention of the prosecution” which had “authorized the police officers to move to the scene”, thus specified Patrick Desjardins.

Cédric Cornet has been registered in the sex offender file since his conviction on appeal in 2019 to two years in prison suspended, five years of socio-judicial follow-up and a fine of 16,000 euros for sexual assault on a minor under 15 years old.

He had been elected mayor of Gosier the following year.
