The collective relations between Markaryd and Halmstad are not up to the mark, says Gerteric Lindqvist, CEO of the company Nibe in Markaryd.

- Business life is very expansive in Markaryd, at the same time that many young people go to Halmstad to study at the university, he says.

Today there is a direct bus in both directions, once in the morning and once in the evening.

But that must change, if business gets to decide.

2.5 million per year

Nibe and approximately 150 other companies in Markaryd have joined forces and said they are willing to finance half the cost of more bus trips on the route.

It is about SEK 2.5 million per year.

- Now we will try to arrange bus connections that go eight to nine times in each direction, per day, which will then also fit school hours and working hours, says Gerteric Lindqvist.

Business benefits

The background to this is a hope that better public transport connections between the cities would ultimately benefit the business life in Markaryd.

Both that workers can get to Markaryd from Halmstad - but also that young people can go to Halmstad to get an education and eventually come back to Markaryd.

Region Kronoberg has said yes

According to Gerteric Lindqvist, the Kronoberg region has already agreed to the solution, but they are still waiting for a response from the Halland region.

If both say yes, the idea is for traffic to be up and running already from the turn of the year.
