• Immigration Algeria's latest migratory challenge: jet skis heading to Almería

  • Borders Algeria fulfills its threat and begins to flood the Spanish coasts with small boats

Algeria

completed this Thursday in

Murcia

and the

Balearic Islands

the migratory challenge that began on Wednesday in

Almería

.

The arrival of small boats -including jet skis as a new form of clandestine journey between the two countries- to the shores of the Mediterranean broke all records and in just 48 hours, 326 migrants arrived, breaking all records and completely overflowing the civil Guard.

According to the data to which EL MUNDO has had access, in one day

Cabo de Gata

beaches such as

Níjar, San José

and

Las Negras

accounted for 23 boats, many of them jet skis since in the official records no distinctions are made by type of vehicle, with a total of 191 people on board.

This unusual wave of boats and jet skis put the staff of the Armed Institute to the test, which soon proved insufficient to deal with the situation.

In

Murcia,

the number of migrants intercepted in a single day amounted to 85 while in the

Balearic Islands

four small boats with 50 people on board were located, the data reveal.

The arrival of boats from Algeria - whose police, according to sources from the State Security Forces and Corps, relaxed surveillance in response to Spain's change of position in the Sahara - began early Wednesday on the Almeria coast where soon, Civil Guard agents were overwhelmed when they realized the magnitude of the situation.

There was a warning, the same sources consulted by this newspaper detail: as many other boats had left the Algerian coast and were headed for Spain.

All the alerts were then activated in Murcia and the Balearic Islands, where at the beginning of June six boats with more than 100 people on board were recorded in less than 24 hours.

The day after that alarm, the semi-rigid boats arrived on the eastern shores.

These three areas of the coast are considered hot spots for illegal immigration as evidenced by official data, which includes these new batches, which are brought to the attention of the Ministry of the Interior.

So far this year, the Balearic Islands have received 8,702 people in 192 boats.

The figures in Almería are also overwhelming: 1,649 people and 170 boats, many jet skis.

Finally, Murcia registered the arrival of 697 migrants aboard 64 small boats.

The majority association of the Civil Guard, Jucil, takes stock of a situation - after months denouncing it - through its communication secretary Agustín Leal.

“The current Administration and the Ministry of the Interior itself continue to fail to do their job and put an end to the illegal immigration that reaches our shores.

The pressing lack of Civil Guard troops is alarming, specifically, in provinces such as Almería where, before the arrival of small boats that we are receiving, all the Corps' patrols have to dedicate themselves to immigration, leaving aside citizen security, ”Leal denounces.

«It is necessary to apply the legislation and defend the rule of law in matters of immigration. The exercise of political command must be linked to responsibility.

From Jucil we ask the politicians of the current Administration to be responsible in this regard.

It is not acceptable that the Civil Guard is always at a minimum.
