She was not placed in a medical unit as she suffers from colon cancer.

One of the French women repatriated from jihadist prison camps in Syria in early July filed a complaint against her conditions of detention in Sequedin, in the north, her lawyer told AFP on Friday.

The complaint was filed on Monday by this 34-year-old woman for "refusal to act to put an end to a detention that is known to be illegal" and "deliberate endangerment of the lives of others", said Me Emmanuel Daoud .

According to the lawyer, a doctor responsible for assessing whether his state of health was compatible with detention considered that his “current disorders” were “incompatible with ordinary detention”.

Indictment for terrorist criminal conspiracy

Since the filing of the complaint, the mother of four children has however been admitted to UHSI (interregional secure hospital unit) on July 20, said the Ministry of Justice, without giving further details due to medical secrecy.

According to the Ministry of Justice, on which the prison administration depends, she had "been examined by a doctor as soon as she arrived", and the latter had then considered that her care in ordinary detention "was appropriate", and placement in UHSI was "not necessary".

The detainee, repatriated on July 5 to France from the Kurdish camp of Roj, in northeastern Syria, with her children, was indicted on July 6 for criminal terrorist association and "material or moral abandonment of a minor by ascendant”, and imprisoned at Sequedin.

Two surgical operations in Syria

A total of 16 women and 35 minors, some of whom had been living since the fall of the Islamic State (IS) group in 2019 in camps in northeastern Syria, were then brought back to France.

The complainant had left France in 2015 after converting to Islam, with her first three children and her jihadist companion, who was killed.

Her second husband, another ISIS member, also died.

During her detention in Syria, she underwent, according to her lawyer, two surgeries to treat her cancer.

Her mother had implored President Emmanuel Macron in June to repatriate her, calling on her "humanity".
