Three people have died in just 24 hours in the Valencia region (Spain) after being gored during bull runs.

Two of the three victims, aged 50 and 56, died after being violently hit on Tuesday during "Bous al carrer".

This festival, organized every year, includes several bull releases in the suburbs of Valencia.

Murderous festivities

The third victim, a Frenchman in his sixties, had been gored on July 8 in a village near Alicante.

The man had been hospitalized in serious condition and succumbed to his injuries on Monday, according to a spokesman for the emergency services.

Bull runs are a tradition at village festivals in Spain but regularly claim casualties, despite safety protocols being in place.

The most famous are those of San Fermin, in Pamplona, where hundreds of runners try to get as close as possible to six fighting bulls during an 850m race through the streets of the city.

This year, five people were gored during San Fermin, which ended on July 14.

None of the victims were seriously injured.

Since the beginning of the compilation of data on these releases of bulls in 1911, at least 16 runners have lost their lives there.
