A young resident of

Mutriku

has confronted the festival commission that ordered her not to participate in a popular meal during the 'Gazte Eguna' (Youth's Day, in Basque) and not to go to the txosnas because she is ertzaina.

The Ertzaintza agent made public the veto that was expressly transmitted to her by a spokesperson for the local festival commission after a vote by its members that excluded her as a member of a "police group."

The Mutriku City Council governed by EH Bildu assures that "it does not tolerate" this type of discrimination,

The young woman explains in a letter that the Euspel union has made public on social networks the attempt to exclude her from festive activities in her town and in which she previously participated.

Mutriku celebrates these days the festivities of the 'Magdalenas' and in the 'Day of the young' the celebration of a meal to which the young ertzaina had already signed up is planned.

But a

Bizitxo Jai Batzordea

spokesperson informed her that she had been vetoed by her members.

A veto not heeded by the young Ertzaina who has already warned that she will participate as one more neighbor in the town festivities, including her presence in the txosnas where she had also been urged not to go because she is a police officer.

The ertzaina responds to her exclusion for being a police officer by listing her functions, among which are helping women who are victims of gender-based violence, taking their aggressors to court, assisting victims of traffic accidents and robberies, and giving talks at ikastolas about the risks of the internet.

The Ertzaintza agent defends the opportunity to show on these holidays that Mutriku is a space "without discrimination" and in which "equality" between men and women is promoted.

The Municipality of Mutriku published a statement yesterday in which "it does not tolerate any type of intimidation, harassment or discrimination based on race, origin, language, gender, sex, etc., or because of having one or another profession" .

A statement signed by EH Bildu, PNV and B+I in which they avoid condemning this discrimination and consider the decision adopted by the party commission "not tolerable".

Esan, the union to which the neighbor of Mutriku and ertzaina is affiliated, and Euspel have made public their support for the agent and their denunciation of the veto by the festival commission.

Vice-Lehendakari Josu Erkoreka has described what happened in Mutriku with this agent as "an act of sectarianism, intolerance and exclusion" and the president of the Basque PP Carlos Iturgaiz has denounced the "lack of freedom and coexistence" that this Basque police means for having been "discriminated against by pro-ETA radicals".

Iturgaiz has transferred "all the support and encouragement of the Basque PP".
