Boris Johnson addressed British MPs for the last time on Wednesday afternoon, after his resignation as Prime Minister.

He took the opportunity to recall his record and congratulate himself.

On the other hand, the duel between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss, the two candidates to succeed him, continues.

Boris Johnson bows out in front of the British Parliament during the final duel between the two contenders to succeed him.

He took advantage of his farewell to Parliament to congratulate himself one last time.

Very fit, the one who will soon leave his post as Prime Minister boasted one last time in front of the deputies.

And by saying goodbye, he left the door open to a possible "comeback".

"I helped this country through the pandemic and another to survive barbarism"

"I won the Conservatives their biggest majority in 40 years and we restored our national independence. I helped this country through the pandemic and I helped another country survive barbarism. Mission largely accomplished for now. Hasta la vista baby!"

Immediately after this speech, Tory MPs elected their two finalists to succeed him.

The future Prime Minister will therefore be Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss.

He is Boris Johnson's former finance minister.

He gained popularity with his measures to support the economy during the pandemic and now promises to tackle inflation.

Liz Truss, current Foreign Secretary, supported Boris Johnson until the end.

His promise to cut taxes earned him the support of right-wing conservatives.

The two candidates will now be decided by party activists.

The winner will be known on September 5.
