In Sweden, 24 people have died in drowning accidents so far this year and the number of drownings has increased in recent years, according to statistics from the Swedish Lifesaving Society.

- It is very important that there is surveillance on the beaches.

We see what happens every summer.

All people want to swim and swim and then it is important to look at how many people a beach has and what happens when many people swim at the same time.

The accident may have occurred, says Marie-Louise Örn Lagerkvist.

A clarity against the municipalities

What is needed to bring about a change in the number of guarded beaches on Öland and in Kalmar County, Marie-Louise Örn Lagerkvist believes, is that the public is clearer to the municipalities that they want to be safer when they swim.

- I do not hope that more accidents will have to happen for something to happen, but I would say that everyone who bathes or stays by the water should be clear that they want it safe by the water.
