What this is due to the salmon being attacked by fungi to the extent that is now happening has not been possible to determine, but according to Fredrik Möbelin, county fishing consultant at the County Administrative Board of Halland, it may be due to higher water temperatures.

- It should reasonably be the case that higher temperatures increase the stress level on the fish and then there will be a reduced function in the immune system, he says.
