Putin attacks "Coca-Cola": Drink "Ivan tea" instead of "pure chemicals"

Russian President Vladimir Putin described Coca-Cola as "pure chemicals" and called on Russians to drink "Ivan's tea", a Russian drink made from the comfrey plant.

Putin's statements came today, Wednesday, at the forum of the Russian Strategic Initiatives Agency, which carried the slogan "Strong ideas for the new era."

In it, he responded to a question by Alexander Klinov, head of the Union of Producers of "Ivan Tea", who put forward the idea of selling the drink to Russians.

"Far from joking, this is certainly more useful than Coca-Cola. It is purely as chemicals," Putin said, promising to sign all documents that would help promote Alexander Klinov's product.

Coca-Cola announced its withdrawal from Russia on June 16.
