After visiting Japan, Foreign Minister Park Jin met with reporters on the way home and formalized his visit to China in August.

Minister Park said, "At the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, there was an offer from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi about visiting China in August.

It is known that the diplomatic authorities of South Korea and China have entered into full-fledged working-level discussions over when and where to hold the meeting.

This meeting is highly likely to be held in the provinces in view of the corona lockdown situation in major cities such as Beijing.

Former Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong also had a meeting with Director Wang Yi in Xiamen, Fujian Province, in April last year.

As Minister Park shared an anecdote of his stay in Shandong Province as an emeritus professor at Shandong University, Shandong Province is also being mentioned as a potential candidate for talks.

As this is the first high-level visit by the government to be held amidst intensifying strategic competition between the US and China, it is expected that the government will put all its effort into explaining the South Korean government's position to China, which is sensitive to the US' moves to contain China.

A diplomatic source said the atmosphere would be enough to convey the situation of Korea, which is required to play a role as a global backbone centering on values under the international order entering the new Cold War era.

Restarting high-level dialogue channels between South Korea and China, which have been suspended due to the spread of Corona, and expanding people-to-people exchanges between the two countries are also expected to be on the agenda at this meeting.
