Finally, a beginning of calm on the front of the two giant fires which have ravaged the forests of Gironde since July 12.

If the fires are not under control, their progression was very limited in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, and there were no new evacuations.

The latest report shows 20,600 hectares devoured by the fires, against 20,300 on Tuesday during the last point issued by the Gironde prefecture, at 11 p.m.

In total, at this time, 7,000 hectares have been consumed in Teste-de-Buch and 13,600 in Landiras.

Effective firewalls

As of Tuesday evening, the prefecture spoke of “notable results” in the fight against the two giant fires.

At Teste-de-Buch, they are encouraging.

“The firewalls built by the Defense of Forests against Fires (DFCI) and the National Forestry Office (ONF), supported by forestry companies and bulldozers from the army and private companies, have proven their effectiveness, to prevent the progression of the fire", underlines the prefecture in its press release.

In Landiras, forestry work is underway to create support areas in the event of an unfavorable evolution of the fire.

Significant land and air resources are committed (2,000 firefighters, 8 Canadairs and 2 Dash).

Since July 12, a total of 35,750 people have been evacuated.

No serious injuries are to be deplored.
