So there were only three of them.

When Conservative MPs once again voted on who will be the Tories' new leader, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak received the most votes, 118.

Deputy Secretary of Commerce Penny Mordaunt received 92 votes and Secretary of State Liz Truss 86 votes.

Kemi Badenoch, former Deputy Minister for Gender Equality, received 59 votes and has thus lost the battle for the party leadership post, reports the BBC.

New vote on Wednesday

The three remaining candidates will face a new vote on Wednesday when MPs will choose the two who will settle for party leadership.

The candidates need at least 119 votes from the MPs to advance in the next round of voting, which indicates that Sunak will probably secure a candidacy.

Who will finally be elected party leader will be decided during the summer by postal vote of the more than 160,000 Tory members.

The result will be announced on 5 September.

Meet in TV debate

The BBC will hold a televised debate between the two remaining candidates on Monday.

A televised debate on Sky News on Tuesday was canceled after both former finance minister Rishi Sunak and foreign minister Liz Truss declined to participate.

This after high-ranking party members expressed concerns that it could be harmful to the party if disagreements are debated in public.
