The new planning zones extend approximately 100 kilometers from the nuclear power plants.

Gislaved, Gnosjö and parts of Värnamo municipality are included in Ringhals nuclear power plant's planning zone, while Eksjö and Vetlanda are included in Oskarshamn's nuclear power plant's planning zone.

More measures in the emergency zones

The planning zones are the last zone of safety around the nuclear power plants.

Before that, there is an internal and an external contingency zone that extends approximately 5 kilometers and 25 kilometers from the nuclear power plants, respectively.

Eksjö municipality's rescue chief, Micael Carlsson, thinks it is important to be aware that the risks have not increased in connection with the new zones.

- There have been no increased risks now just because our county is now to some extent included in these zones.

It is the emergency preparedness that has been seen over the last few years and the rules have now been tightened with expanded emergency preparedness zones and new planning zones, he says.

The County Administrative Board's responsibility

It is the county administrative board that bears the main responsibility for taking special measures should it become relevant.

They are also responsible for protecting the public by informing the population about special health protection measures.
