After record levels of timber prices and reduced supply, things are now starting to turn around, according to Christian Nielsen, market analyst for wood products at Skogsindustrierna.

The forest industries represent Sweden's sawmills and pulp and paper industry.

Christian Nielsen says that the decline in timber prices is due to the supply being good, ie as it was before covid-19 broke out.

- Prices have been high during the pandemic restrictions due to high demand and reduced supply.

But now they are on their way down.

There was concern that prices would rise with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

But a good supply of timber means that prices will fall during the summer and early autumn, he says.

- We come out of a situation where there has been a lot of competition and it has been difficult to get hold of wood products, which then drove up the prices of wood products.

We now see clear signs that that situation has begun to normalize and we expect the supply to be good or normal.
