Germany wants to help the Republic of Moldova, which is suffering from the consequences of the Ukraine war, with a further 60 million euros.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock intends to hold the prospect of this amount at a support conference in Bucharest on Friday, according to her delegation.

High energy costs in private households are to be cushioned with 40 million euros.

However, the Bundestag still has to approve this payment.

In addition, there is 20 million euros for a program to promote energy efficiency and renewable energies as well as for video drones, thermal imaging devices, SUVs and devices for checking identity documents at the border.

The former Soviet Republic of Moldova, like Ukraine, has been an official candidate for membership of the European Union since June.

The country of 2.6 million people has been caring for hundreds of thousands of refugees since the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine at the end of February.

Representatives from 24 countries will take part in the meeting in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

A first donor conference took place in Berlin in April.

Baerbock also wants to visit the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta.

Constanta is one of the alternative routes for exporting Ukrainian grain, which is no longer possible due to the war via the Ukrainian ports.

Before the war, Ukraine was one of the largest grain exporters in the world.
