The Kremlin is making changes to the Ministry of Defense and the Space Agency

Today, Friday, the Russian government is preparing to make changes in its ranks, with new faces assuming key positions in the country's defense and space services.

Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov will now also take over as deputy prime minister, an upgrade the Kremlin signaled earlier this week.

Manturov will also assume the functions of the State Armament Committee.

Yury Borisov, deputy prime minister who until now has overseen the Ministry of Defense, will take over as the new director of the Russian space agency, Roscosmos.

Borisov played a key role in Russia's war in recent months as it launched its invasion of Ukraine.

His priority was to redirect the country's industrial capacity to wartime production.

Accordingly, companies will be required to implement state contracts while their employees can be required to work overtime and cancel vacations.

The fate of former head of the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, is not yet clear.

Media reports said he either took a senior position in the presidential administration or was sent to Donetsk or Luhansk, two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, where he will be a Kremlin liaison.
