Thawing of relations between Barcelona and Madrid, three months after

the Catalangate scandal

which revealed the massive espionage of Catalan separatists by the Spanish secret services.

Catalan President Pere Aragonès was received this Friday in Madrid by the head of the Spanish executive, Pedro Sánchez, who pledged to collaborate in the legal processes opened by the separatists about these wiretappings.

This response seems to satisfy Pere Aragonès who broke off relations in April.

Both have also granted the resumption of dialogue with the Madrid-Barcelona bilateral commission which will meet at the end of July.

This negotiating table has not taken place since September 2021 and aims to resolve the political conflict between them.

Hopes for concrete progress

This time, it should bring together all the coalition parties.

On the table, there will be several subjects including the reform of the crime of sedition - which could help ex-president

Carles Puigdemont

to return to the country - and the diversion of the conflict will be discussed.

The Catalans have already warned that they expect something concrete from Madrid this time around.
