Since 1 July, it is the responsibility of the municipalities to arrange accommodation for refugees from Ukraine.

Unlike at the Swedish Migration Agency's accommodation, food is not included in municipal accommodation.

Instead, you get a higher daily allowance of SEK 71 instead of SEK 24 per day for a single adult.

In addition to food, the money should be enough for, among other things, clothes, medical care and hygiene items.

- There are no words for how to think when you do not change a daily allowance that has been at the same level since the 1990s, says Maria Talajic Fredlund.

Refugees from all over the county apply to the help center in Uppsala in the hope of a bag with supplies from the non-profit association Refugee Support Uppsala.

The help center distributes food, hygiene items and clothes, but the great demand means that it is not enough for everyone, as P4 Uppland has also said.

What can the municipality do?

The Swedish Migration Agency has distributed 854 people in need of protection from Ukraine to the county's municipalities from 1 July, of which 494 to Uppsala municipality.

But the municipality can not help with more money or food.

- You can not be entitled to compensation both from the LMA (Act on the reception of asylum seekers) and from the Social Services Act, I understand that it is difficult to manage with so little money, but it is a matter for the government because it is they who set the compensation levels , says Karin Sundström, unit manager for refugee reception in Uppsala.
