Élisabeth Borne said on Friday that things were "now clear" after the apology presented by the Minister of Territorial Communities Caroline Cayeux, who said "regret" her remarks in 2013 criticizing the opening of marriage to same-sex couples.

Asked on the sidelines of a trip to Calvados, the Prime Minister assured that the new minister was "at work and focused on her mission".

"Caroline Cayeux made remarks several years ago that were naturally shocking. When she wanted to explain it, she obviously made awkward remarks," she said.

Terminal wants to whistle the end of controversy

"I think she had the opportunity to explain herself in an interview to apologize to people who may have been offended, to reaffirm that she totally shared the progressive values that the president carries, that I carry and that carries my government, and that it will be very vigilant in the future to the support that can be given to all the associations which fight against discrimination, and in particular against homophobia", she added.

"I think things are now clear and Caroline Cayeux, like the rest of the government, is at work and focused on her mission," concluded Elisabeth Borne.
