A man was stabbed to death "obviously during a brawl" on the night of Thursday to Friday in downtown Metz, announced the LR mayor of the Moselle prefecture, François Grosdidier.
The Metz public prosecutor's office indicated that it had opened an investigation for "murder" on Friday: "It is a brawl" which opposed around 1:30 a.m. a "gang of young adults from Longwy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) and two individuals” in a pedestrian street in the city center, said the assistant prosecutor, Julien Berger.
The perpetrators are still at large but several witnesses, "young people from the gang and passers-by", have already been heard, he added.
The investigation was entrusted to the Metz judicial police and the departmental security.

, the 22-year-old victim was with "a group of friends when they were attacked by two men armed with at least one knife" around 1:30 a.m., on the sidelines of the July 14 festivities. .
A witness then called the emergency services, seeing the young man unconscious.
Taken to hospital, he died overnight, according to the regional daily.
