According to the National Gallery of Scotland, the self-portrait was found on the back of Van Gogh's 1885 painting 'Portrait of a Farmer Woman'.

As the museum was preparing for the exhibition, X-rays were used to illuminate the underside of the cardboard, and to their surprise, a man's face was revealed.

The man wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a scarf around his neck was none other than Van Gogh.

He glued cardboard onto the self-portrait and painted a peasant woman on the back.

Van Gogh is said to have often reused canvases to save his money.

Experts are studying how to remove glue and cardboard without damaging the picture.

Van Gogh left many self-portraits until his death in 1890.

Netizens responded, "The painter who was poor reused the canvas. It would be nice if he knew the value of his current painting...", "It's 'One Plus One'! Please check the back side of other works~"
