Washington lifts sanctions on importing fertilizers and foodstuffs from Russia

The US Treasury announced the lifting of sanctions on the import of fertilizers, food, seeds, medicines, and medical equipment from Russia.

It added that it had lifted sanctions against the Russian "Alpha Bank" in Kazakhstan, and "Gazprom Germania" in Germany.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the European Union was considering lifting sanctions against some Russians.

According to European lawyers, some penalties have a weak legal basis.
