Wilhelm Wolf is the new President of the Hessian State Court of Justice.

The 56-year-old succeeds Roman Poseck, who was appointed the new Hessian Minister of Justice.

The President of the Frankfurt Regional Court was elected unanimously in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden on Tuesday.

Wolf is already one of the judges of the highest Hessian court.

The state court based in Wiesbaden is the Hessian constitutional court.

Eleven judges ensure that the Hessian state constitution is observed.

They decide, among other things, whether laws are constitutional or whether fundamental rights have been violated.

They also rule on possible charges against members of the state government.

Five of the judges must be professional judges.

They are elected by the Hessian state parliament for seven years.

The other six members are re-elected for each parliamentary term.

Poseck had headed the state court since 2017.

After his appointment as Minister of Justice at the end of May, the Constitutional Court was temporarily headed by Vice President Ute Sacksofsky, Professor of Public Law at Goethe University in Frankfurt
