Two fires in progress since Tuesday afternoon in Gironde have burned 200 and 30 hectares of pine forests respectively, without causing any casualties, AFP learned from firefighters.

In the Landiras sector, about 40 km south of Bordeaux, 200 hectares have gone up in smoke since 4 p.m. on "complicated terrain" and by a "swirling wind", which makes the intervention difficult and forces the firefighters to "constant redeployment" of their means.

Four water bomber planes, about fifty vehicles and about 120 firefighters were mobilized.

According to the prefecture, two hamlets in the town of Guillos, i.e. around fifty houses, were evacuated.

The Dune du Pilat affected by the fires

The other ongoing fire broke out around 3 p.m. on a forest road in the town of La Teste-de-Buch, near the Dune du Pilat in the Bassin d'Arcachon.

The land, "dune" and planted with old pines, is difficult to access, but devoid of dwellings, with the exception of a few cabins in the forest, according to the firefighters.
