The facts occurred between August 31 and September 10, 2021. The accounts of fifteen pharmacists in the Grand-Est region had been hacked by a network of nine people who thus published thousands of fake health passes.

These people, “a hacker and eight resellers”, were arrested at the end of June in the Paris region, around Lyon and in the Drôme, indicated the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Nancy.

Passes sold from 100 to 400 euros

The network had exploited “a security flaw on the website of the Order of Pharmacists”.

The suspects had thus published and sold nearly 7,000 fake health passes for prices ranging from 100 to 400 euros, "generating a significant criminal profit".

Two people are already imprisoned for other cases and "some of the defendants are already known to the courts for breaches of an automated data processing system", added the Nancy magistrates.

“Twelve of the fifteen hacked accounts were used to edit false passes,” explained the Jirs, adding that the order of pharmacists had filed a complaint.

The nine accused will appear “soon” before an examining magistrate, said the Jirs.

"The phenomenon of false passes presents dangers to human life, particularly in the event of inadequate medical care for people with false passes in the emergency room", underlined the public prosecutor in the press release.
