Once again in the course of the corona pandemic, Europe is faster and more comprehensive than Germany with regard to a vaccination recommendation for groups of people who are particularly at risk.

While the local Standing Vaccination Commission has so far only considered a second booster vaccination necessary for those over 70, the two EU health authorities responsible for this recommend the second booster for everyone over 60. And not just in autumn, when hopefully an adapted vaccine will be available .

In view of the rapidly increasing number of infections due to the more contagious omicron subvariants and thus also significantly more illnesses and deaths, this is a sensible recommendation from Brussels.

But where is the vaccination campaign announced by Health Minister Lauterbach weeks ago to close the immunity gap among the elderly, which is still too large?

The millions of citizens over the age of 60 who received their first booster vaccination more than six months ago also urgently need to be won over for a second booster.

There is little to see or hear from the Federal Center for Health Education, which would have to run such an information campaign on all channels.

But for the traffic light, Corona only seems to be a minor matter.

Not only the FDP allows the summer wave to run unchecked into autumn and winter.
