United Kingdom Boris Johnson resigns as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom: "No one is indispensable in political life"
British diplomat
Liz Truss
announced on Sunday her candidacy to succeed Prime Minister
Boris Johnson
, who resigned this week after a series of scandals.
"I will fight this election as a Conservative and I will govern as a Conservative," Truss, 46, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
The British Foreign Minister, one of the favorites, joins ten other candidates in the race for the leadership of
the Conservative Party
- the party with the majority in the House of Commons - and, therefore, of Downing Street.
Following his announcement, Deputy
Rehman Chishti
also stood as a candidate.
Johnson stepped down as leader of the Conservative Party on Thursday but will remain as prime minister until his successor is chosen.
