Bayreuth City Councilor Halil Tasdelen (SPD) has been the victim of an alleged right-wing extremist attack.

As the police headquarters in Upper Franconia announced on Saturday, a man insulted the local politician in a “xenophobic manner” on Friday afternoon and slapped him in the face.

As a result, the city council, who is also chairman of the AWO district association in Bayreuth, was seriously injured.

A woman who accompanied the perpetrator also insulted Tasdelen.

According to the information, she has already been identified, it is a 39-year-old woman from Bayreuth.

The alleged perpetrator was initially not caught.

Police described him as tall and muscular, with short, shaved hair and tattoos on his neck and both forearms.

The victim's brother, Bavarian SPD member of parliament Arif Tasdelen, wrote on Twitter that Halil Tasdelen was attacked right in front of his house and suffered a double broken nose.

Before the perpetrator attacked, he said, "Shit Kanake, shit Turk".

Numerous people showed solidarity with Tasdelen on social networks, including Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens), who wished him a speedy recovery.

He hopes that the perpetrator will be caught and punished quickly, Özdemir wrote.
